Journey Retreat Details
The Year 2 Confirmation Retreat Team is excited to announce that we will be having a Confirmation Retreat for your Year 2 Confirmation Candidate on March 4-6 at the YCamp in Boone! It's called, "Why be Catholic?". The retreat team is excited and determined to help your Confirmation Candidate have a personal encounter with Christ and a meaningful experience to help them prepare for their upcoming Sacrament of Confirmation!
Journey is a Confirmation retreat for Confirmation candidates in their second year of Confirmation preparation. The weekend will focus on “Why be Catholic?”. Journey focuses on the role of adventure in the life of following Christ. We are called to be counter-cultural, to be people of Hope and consecrate our lives to prayer and a singular purpose: to build the Kingdom of God.
Our Journeys are united by grace: Grace is defined as the free gift of God’s love. It is the common thread through all of our lives, from the “AHA!” moments to the moments of no hope. Grace meets us where we are, but it never leaves us the same. It carries us through life, and it will carry us to the end of time.
On this year’s retreat, the Gospel and readings call us to live differently: to live differently than before we encountered the Lord, and to live differently than societal norms. Holiness will be a common theme in this year’s retreat. We will remind teens that temptation shows up-NOT as a Devil with pointy horns- but as a lesser God, something we have always wanted but is not quite good enough for us. This retreat will be about refusing to settle for mediocrity and choosing what is best instead, for the world offers us comfort, but we were not made for comfort.
A retreat is characterized by stepping away from daily stress, obligations, and appointments. It is putting the Lord first without having to balance the many hats students wear.
The retreat will start on Friday, March 4 at 5:00 PM at St. Cecilia Church with a Fish Dinner, then will travel later Friday evening to the YCamp in Boone, and will return to St. Cecilia Church on Sunday, March 6 at approximately 3:00 PM
The retreat team and I (Kayla) would love for your Year 2 Confirmation Candidate to join us on the Why be Catholic Retreat March 4-6! We are here for them and want to help them have a personal encounter with Christ in preparation for their Sacrament of Confirmation they'll be receiving in a few months.

If your Confirmation Candidate is attending the retreat, we have a tradition with this retreat called Wheat Letters. A wheat letter is a letter expressing your support, affirmation and any inspiration for your Confirmation Candidate. It is a chance to tell them how much you love and care for them. It is a letter of your continued prayers for them. We collect the letters, keep them secret from the candidates, and then hand them out to them during the retreat. We are asking parents to send at least 5 letters for their Confirmation Candidate by March 1st to Kayla Greiner at to kgreiner@stceciliaparish.org or mail to 2900 Hoover Ames, IA 50010 (C/O Kayla Greiner). (Their Confirmation Retreat is March 4-6, letters distributed on March 5). Please see the attached document for more information about the wheat letters or please feel free to reach out to Kayla for more information! You can also submit wheat letters below.
